school girls
The students, who spoke to our correspondent in Awka, said age and time of graduation from the university were serious factors that determine marriage for women in Igboland.
They, therefore, urged the Anambra State Government and the striking workers of the university to urgently resolve their differences and call off the strike to save their future.
One of the female students, Uchenna, who is a social sciences student of the institution, said that these days men wait for girls to graduate from the university or any other higher institution before they approach them for marriage.
“Now if the university is closed down for too long, it may affect my age of graduation, which is another problem because men would not want to marry ladies who have gone past certain age,” she said.
The Secretary of the Students’ Union Government of the university, Mr. Callistus Ifeanyi, confirmed to our correspondent that the SUG leadership had come under pressure from female students, who wanted them to do something urgent to end the strike.
“It has been four months now and nothing is happening. Students are worried. Our ladies are not at peace with what is happening. Their time is counting. Somebody waiting for you to graduate before he will marry you will just move on to another person,” Ifeanyi said.
Our correspondent further gathered from respondents that these days, men do not want to train girls in school before marrying them or even after marrying them.
They want the girls’ parents to take full responsibility of training their daughters before they can approach them for marriage.
Nnamdi Okoye, a civil servant in Awka, said men had learnt their lessons. “Time was in the past when some men trained girls in school only for such men to be jilted by the same girls who would feel they had risen above the social class of their benevolent fiancé,” he said.
The Head of Department of Sociology and Anthropology of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Dr. Peter Ezeah, confirmed that age and education have become serious preconditions for marriage in the Igbo society.
He said the Igbo society still valued marriage and children. And so because younger women were more likely to have more and healthy children, parents still give out their children in marriage at an early age.
He said though the advent of western education had led to delay in the marriage age of girls, there were fears that older women might not be able to give birth.
He said, “By the time a lady enters the university at 17, she should leave at 22, which is the peak of fertility. If she does not finish before 30, she will be considered too old.”
On the economic level, Ezeah said bachelors would like to marry women that would assist them with the family income, “so they go for graduates and women who would not constitute economic liabilities to them.”

Liverpool 3-1 Napoli: Steven Gerrard Hat-Trick Rescues Roy Hodgson After Nightmare Start

Napoli had stunned the Anfield crowd by dominating the first half and had taken a 1-0 lead and arguably should have scored more against a lackluster Liverpool side.
But Liverpool improved drastically in the second half and led by Gerrard produced a fine comeback to secure victory in front of new owner John Henry.
Roy Hodgson had one eye firmly on the weekend ahead of Napoli’s trip to Anfield in the Europa Cup as he rested both Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard ahead of Chelsea’s visit on Sunday.
Glen Johnson returned at right back following a four game absence whilst youngsters Jonjo Shelvey and Jay Spearing were both given a chance to impress and gain further experience in Europe.
Napoli had given Roy Hodgson’s side a stern test two weeks ago and they retained the same starting line-up from that game, in which Liverpool had successfully succeeded in stifling the Italians and consequently earned a hard fought 0-0 draw.
It was a bold formation from the Serie A side and their attacking purpose was evident with a 3-4-3 set up, a refreshing approach which signified an entertaining contest. .
Liverpool began with plenty of attacking intent and quickly exploited the flanks to some success, with the ever improving Milan Jovanovic crossing for Raul Meireles only for the Portuguese midfielder to lack the control to finish.
However, Napoli began to settle and showed exactly why they have such a formidable away record this season, which has seen them win 4 games and draw three out of seven on their travels.
The warning signs began to emerge for Liverpool with the talented Slovakian midfielder Marek Hamsik beginning to pull the strings in the heart of the midfield. His exquisite through ball to Edinson Cavani opened up the Liverpool defense but the Uruguayan lacked the composure blazing his shot wildly over the bar.
Ezequiel Lavezzi then had a stunning shot that was inches past Pepe Reina’s post and it was to no great surprise when the winger gave the Italian’s a deserved lead just moments later.
Christian Poulsen’s misguided header gave Cavani the perfect chance to slip Lavezzi through and Napoli’s danger-man needed no second invitation as he steered the ball beyond Reina, it was a goal that the visitors had deserved.
Liverpool’s response was impressive and Poulsen nearly made amends when he found a defence splitting pass to David Ngog, but the Liverpool front-man could only put his shot wide of the post, it was Liverpool’s best chance of the half in what had so far been a frustrating evening.
Liverpool began the second half with Steven Gerrard replacing Milan Jovanovic as Liverpool attempted to retain their unbeaten record in the competition.
The captain’s mere presence seemed to lift Anfield and Liverpool began the second half with an increased tempo.
Suddenly the home side started to hassle this technically gifted Napoli side something which was evidently missing in the first half.
Their change in approach could and possibly should have paid off almost immediately and again it was Ngog who was presented with a fantastic opportunity.
The Frenchman found himself on the end of a cutback from the right hand side but his shot was well saved by Morgan De Sanctis from eight yards out.
Raul Meireles should have done better when he shot wide from eight yards out but the Liverpool pressure was growing and the home support wouldn’t have to wait long for an equalizing goal.
That man Steven Gerrard jumped to the reds rescue once again but Napoli only had themselves to blame for some catastrophic defending.
Having dispossessed Jonjo Shelvy Napoli then made a complete mess of clearing their lines and a short back-pass to the goalkeeper was quickly latched onto by Gerrard who clawed the home side back into the match.
It was a thoroughly deserved equalizer after a dominant second half performance from Roy Hodgson’s side and there appeared only one winner from that moment on.
The decisive goal came just moments later and it was again from yet more joy from the flanks. Glen Johnson burst into the Napoli area at blistering pace and was subsequently tripped.
Man of the moment Steven Gerrard coolly slotted in the resulting penalty to set Liverpool on their way to a valuable three points.
Gerrard then completed his hat-trick to rub salt into Napoli’s wounds when he chipped the ball over the keeper after bursting though the non existent Napoli back-line to round of an inspirational individual performance and give Liverpool a deserved victory after a nervy first half.

The girl gave birth in a hospital in the southern city of Jerez on 26 October, though the case only came to light today. Doctors remarked that both the girl and her mother, who accompanied her to the hospital, seemed calm about the birth.
The young mother was allowed home at the weekend with the healthy 2.9kg (6.4lb) baby, whose father was reported to be an under-age boy.
"The important thing is that both the baby and the mother should be cared for properly," said Micaela Navarro, head of the health service in the region of Andalucía.
"If that is the case, then they can stay with their family without any problem. That is what we are checking on at the moment. She might be the mother, but she is herself a minor," she added.
Navarro did not explain why the checks had not been carried out earlier.
The Diario de Sevilla newspaper reported that, despite the age of the mother, a caesarean had not been necessary.
But doctors warned that pregnancies carried health risks for very young girls. "At a young age your bones are not even fully formed," said Dr Adolfo López Gómez of Seville's Sagrado Corazón hospital.
"The high level of hormonal activity caused by a pregnancy can provoke problems."
Andalucía had 177 children born to girls who were 14 or under in 2008 – though no one can recall a case involving a 10-year-old.
Doctors remarked that the baby was welcomed into the new family, who said that childbirth at a young age was not abnormal in their native Romania, according to the local Diario de Jerez newspaper.
Spain allows marriage, where a judge deems there are exceptional circumstances, at 14 years old.

History has a way of making its heroes, be it positive or negative and life without event holds no history. This is the case of the ‘Woman Boku’ community in Kubwa, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, which has the highest concentration of ladies of easy virtue at night.
Succinctly put, ‘Woman Boku’ means that women are plenty and easily available at little or no cost at all.
Perhaps, what makes the area unique is its deceptive mien. During the day, a stranger will find no trace of a brothel in the area. But at night, it becomes a red-light district.
A small community which is a few minutes‘ walk from the market and the National Youth Service Corps Permanent Orientation Camp, Woman Boku boasts a good number of ‘drinking joints‘ and local brothels.
The history of Woman Boku dates back to 1980s/90s when the Federal Capital Territory was moved from Lagos to Abuja. It was said that during that time, Abuja was a safe haven for characters of different shades who desired to eke out a living. However, as a result of the strict stance of the then military government, many of the women of easy virtues sought refuge in communities such as Women Boku within Abuja.
The high patronage of brothels in ‘Woman Boku’ has transcended bounds of decency. Despite the special task force set up by the administration of the Federal Capital Territory Development Authority to get them off the community they have continued ply their trade there.
Globally, there is no society that supports prostitution, despite the economic values attached to it. From highly liberal societies to the highly religious and conservative African families, asewo, as prostitution is popularly known in Nigeria, is never a profession to be openly proud of.
A Nigerian-based in Houston, Texas in the United States, Mrs. Stacey Ajaja, said the game had been exacerbated by corrupt government officials. She said, “I am not too familiar with the situation of prostitution in Abuja, but I have always had a strong disapproval for prostitution, especially at home in Nigeria. Women are greatly exploited by top officials and have lost all values for them. The young women do this in order to survive.”
According to her, economic sanctions foisted on them by government had aggravated matter.
Mrs. Ajaja a registered Nurse, said, “I think there is need for support system for women, workshops to educate women on self-esteem, love for themselves as individuals, how to be industrious so they will not have to resort to selling their bodies for money, as well as sex education on the rising percentage of sexually transmitted diseases, especially HIV which is at an all time high in Nigeria. They need to know the risks involved in the lifestyle of prostitution to which they are subjecting themselves.”
A recent night outing in Leisure Palace Hotel, one of the special joints in Woman Boku, reveals a serious drama with comic realities. Many of the girls who are within the age range of 23 and 30 bear names such as Jennifer, Peace, Agnes, Scholastica and others.
A staff of the hotel, who simply identified himself as Ken, said many of the women opted for these names to shield their identities. He recalled how a young man from Onitsha almost committed incest with his sister who was supposed to be schooling at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, in the hotel. With the red lights, he could not identify his sister. She was not even supposed to be there. After agreeing on N500 per round of sex, it dawned on him that the woman was his sister who claimed to be in school. That night, she relocated to another destination.
Investigations by our correspondent reveal that many of the girls in Woman Boku are undergraduates from tertiary institutions across the Niger. Observers attribute it to the closure of the schools in the South-East due to the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
But how much do these girls make from this ‘business’? Chika Nwokorie, a native of Mbaise in Imo State says, ‘Market’ is usually high during weekends. “I make an average of N50,000 daily; I am so blessed to have a member of the National Assembly who is too generous. The man takes good care of me and that is why I am not going to let him go freely.”
It was also learnt that some big boys can drop huge sums of money without bargaining. Our correspondent observed that some of the girls have serious relationships which they hope will blossom into marriage. But Chika said the idea of boyfriend had long been jettisoned because of a “nasty” experience in the past. She was optimistic that, “one day, a man would get married to me, no matter my dirty past. If he loves me, he would say Yes, I do.”
Interestingly, a large number of adolescents are said to be making a living from commercial sex trade in Woman Boku. Yet many stakeholders are not bothered by the effects it might have on their children. For instance, the community hosts the prestigious LEA Primary School. The causes of adolescent prostitution in Nigeria are largely attributed, but not limited, to economic factors.
Mr. Obiora Madu had thought that with the array of churches in Kubwa, young ladies would retrace their steps but it seemed not to have any effect.
While a lot of people advocate tightening the laws against prostitution, others believe that the government still has a lot to do.
But the hue and cry against prostitution has been on the rise in recent times. For instance, women living in Gwarinpa Estate, Abuja had, in a desperate move to have their husbands back home and save their marriages, petitioned the FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, to rescue their marriage from the threat of commercial sex workers in the estate.
The women complained that since the clampdown order by the FCTA on commercial sex workers, many of them had relocated to the estate.
Spokesperson of the women, Mrs. Sarah Manu, said the estate which used to be quiet and decent before the FCT Joint Task Force started war against commercial sex workers in the FCT had become a place of refuge for the prostitutes.
She bemoaned a situation where the ladies litter the streets as early as sunset saying it was not good for their children, particularly the girl child.
Manu said, “It is common these days when we quarrel with our husbands over minor issues to see of them (husbands) pick up their car keys and drive out of the house only to come back the next day. While we are not supporting women to quarrel with their husbands, we must put it on record that the activities of these ladies constitute huge temptation to our husbands and thus threatening our homes.”
Also, the timely intervention of the task force on prostitution in the FCT recently saved the life of a commercial sex worker from the hands of a suspected ritualist.
The victim, who gave her name as Aisha Isah, claimed she was earlier raped by her attacker who later attempted to cut her up with a knife but was saved by the intervention of men of the task force who overpowered and arrested the man.
The victim who was said to have wept uncontrollably with blood flowing from underneath her skirt had some deep knife cuts all over her body.
While addressing the prostitute, the FCT Secretary for Social Development and member of the Task Force, Mrs. Blessing Onu, who was represented by the Deputy Director, Social Welfare, Mrs. Folashade Ayileka, warned the girls to quit the job and also advised them to learn from the lady who was almost killed by a ritualist.

Who is enjoying the support of the majority of the 36 state governors in the country, especially among the presidential aspirants of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)? The question will be answered when the Governors’ Forum elects a new chairman to take over from the Kwara State Governor, Bukola Saraki. The battle for the chairmanship of the forum has already pitted presidential aspirants such as the incumbent Goodluck Jonathan, Ibrahim Babangida, Atiku Abubakar, Aliyu Gusau, Ibrahim Shekarau and Saraki against one another. The battle for the chairmanship of the largely advisory body is now being turned into a mini-presidential primary of the PDP, as controlling the body could signify the level of support the aspirants enjoy among the state governors. The forum came into prominence during the crisis that greeted the absence of the late President Umaru Yar‘Adua from the country on health ground between last November and February this year and there was need to empower the then Vice President Jonathan to take charge. It was gathered that in order to ensure that the cohesiveness of the GF is whittled down, the Presidency may have concluded plans to break the ranks of the governors as the election draws closer. This is as a result of the hoopla that greeted the announcement of Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel as the successor to Saraki earlier in the week. In what keen observers of politics in the country say may decide who emerges president next year, the rescheduled GF meeting may witness the beginning of the balkanisation of the once cohesive and influential GF. News Star’s investigations revealed that the emergence of Ogun State governor may have been at the behest of President Jonathan. But Governors Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano State, Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State and others faulted the emergence of Daniel. Also faulting the process that threw up Daniel are Governors Segun Mimiko of Ondo State, Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State and Mamuda Shinkafi of Zamfara State. Impeccable sources told the paper that the move to install the Ogun State governor is a ploy by Jonathan to break the ranks of GF in the build-up to the 2011 elections. “Gbenga Daniel is Jonathan’s presidential campaign anchor man in the South-West; definitely other aspirants will feel threatened by the move. Wonks in the president’s think tank must have seen this and made contingency plans,” said a source in Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation. He pointed out that the president has been way ahead of his opponents from the word go. “All that Jonathan has been doing is to force his opponents into a reaction mode. He acts and they react. What it means simply is that they are no longer setting the agenda,” the source said. “If you are privy to events in the country during the moves to install Jonathan as acting president, you would see the immense influence that Saraki as chairman of the GF brought to bear during the power vacuum that attended the former president’s ailment,” said a presidency source. According to him, governors are more favoured to emerge as PDP presidential candidates. So, the governors are believed to be more amenable to conceding to one of their own. The GF chairmanship post is held for two years by any elected chairman. Though his tenure is yet to elapse, Saraki, after declaring his intentions to run for Presidency, had indicated that he would resign the post. But with the election fast approaching, horse-trading and building of alliances by politicians in top gear, Saraki, according to sources, seemed to have delayed on the resignation from the post. This, according to his strategists, was shrewdly calculated towards galvanizing support for his presidential ambition. This much an aide to Daniel confirmed. “It is rather sad that Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) governors don’t see what is actually going on. This fight is not about Gbenga Daniel, it is about 2011 presidential election. This is what we call battle by proxy. ACN should see that the real target is Jonathan and not Daniel. It is like the voice of Jacob but the hand of Esau,” said an aide to the Ogun State governor. But presidency sources aver that Jonathan may be aware of this, hence is not ready to sit and allow his presidential ambition torpedoed. As gathered, the move to install Gbenga was a decoy meant to hastily force Saraki to hand over as chairman of GF so that he would not use the platform to actualise his ambition. “A cohesive GF in the face of uncertainty in the forthcoming elections can only be unsettling for any president. What it means is that GF could thwart any decision at both party level and state level,” said our presidency sources. With the GF meeting scheduled for today, there are indications that about 15 governors may not be in attendance. These are governors who installed Gbenga Daniel. But others opine that if the 15 governors attend, it will be because they are confident that they will secure the support of the majority. Anti-Jonathan governors are insisting that if anything, a governor who is known to be neutral in the unfolding political intrigue should be elected as the chairman of the GF. To this end, three names are being touted as likely successor to Saraki. These are Governor Danjuma Goje of Gombe State, Babangida Aliyu of Niger State and Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State. The most favoured in this regard is Aliyu, who in addition to being the chairman of Northern Governors Forum, has so far shown restraint in his utterances and body language as far supporting any candidate for the presidency; this, despite having a prominent son of the state, Babangida, as one of the presidential contenders. Yuguda, say pundits, may stand no chance giving his avowed support for Jonathan. Another strong contender is Goje. Opinion about him has been positive. He is said to be a moderate but astute politician who is ready to compromise on integrity. The paper however gathered that Jonathan’s intention may not be to install his man as chairman of GF. As gathered, the bigger plan is to ensure that GF is not cohesive as the battle for the presidency moves nearer. |

You could say he is Nigeria’s biggest export and not be far from the truth. But are there any words to class 2face asides the fact that we truly love him? And that we’re glad he made his meteoric rise from the ashes? The video was shot on location in South Africa, with certain shots taken in Lagos. I particularly like how a part of the video takes a shot at the media tsunami he went through over the last two years. It has been on TV for a sec now, just thought we’d share.

Hugging Of Females Banned In Nigerian University
Kolo said that anyone caught “embracing or hugging” any female students would be severely dealt with. The vice chancellor gave the order in Lapai, on Tuesday, while addressing a one-day enlarged re-orientation workshop organised by the institution for all its staff.
Describing hugging and embracing of female students as immoral, the vice chancellor said the management had decided to “forgive” those caught in the act but said those affected had been noted and would be closely watched by the authorities.
Kolo also warned staff of the university against leaking official secret as those that violated the law would be summarily sacked from the school.
He challenged staff and students to have a change of attitude in their approach to work and studies as all forms of idleness and laziness would not be tolerated.

Wife kills husband over loaf of bread
If tears could raise the dead, Hafeez Rasheed, allegedly stabbed to death by his wife, Molayo, would have ‘resurrected’ by now. But wishes were not horses, as her weeping and wailing could not repair the irreparable damage, done to the family by his alleged murder. But the woman in the eyes of the storm tried to justify her action.
“After stabbing him, I cried out for help, but our neighbours did not come to assist in saving his life. I cried for help but nobody came to assist me,” she lamented. The incident occurred at Ile Oloola Oja Igbo area of Ibadan, Oyo State. Problem started when Molayo was eating a loaf of bread and her husband decided to take part of it without her permission.
The 18-year-old woman was said to have challenged her husband for eating out of it. The suspect, a bread hawker, was alleged to have earlier quarreled with the victim, after he reportedly refused to give her N1,000, feeding allowance.
According to her, what her late husband could afford to give her was N70. She also narrated how they started fighting as a result of his failure to give her the money she requested. “I was frustrated as he could only afford to give me N70, instead of the N1,000. We started exchanging words and he suddenly held my back. As I tried to lose myself from his grip, he started beating me up. Fight later broke out and it was in the process that I used the knife to stab him in the chest and he died at about 2.00 pm.
I didn’t know it would result in his death. I still blame our neighbours for not coming to his rescue,” she said amid tears. According to some neighbours, before the tragedy, the couple turned their matrimonial home to battle field. The suspect also confirmed this: “We fought regularly and after each quarrel, which sometimes made me to go back to my parents’ house, my husband usually came to beg me to come back,” she said.
“I got married to my husband in 2007 and the marriage is blessed with a year old child. But my husband was not taking care of me and our child. He usually beat me up each time I requested money for the up-keep of the family,” Molayo said. One of the victim’s relatives said the family was still in shock over the tragedy. He disclosed that Rasheed was the only son of his parents.
“They always quarreled, but we didn’t know this could result in his death,” he said. He recalled how the suspect was sent packing on many occasions, but her late husband went and brought her back to the family. “Let Molayo face the consequences of her dastardly act,” he said.
The second-in-command at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, Mr. Okpara Benjamin, confirmed the incident. He disclosed that that the corpse had been deposited at General Hospital, Yemetu, Ibadan, adding that the suspect would be prosecuted after investigation.

7 Year Old Nigerian Girl In Secondary School. | Talk of Naija
She is, without a doubt, a genius. At seven, when many of her peers are still in primary three, little Atiyatullahi Arike Lawal has already gained admission into the Junior Secondary School (JSS).
Many people agree that the brilliant girl has performed a rare feat.
When schools in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital resumed for the 2010/2011 academic session recently, Atiyatullahi was the cynosure of all eyes as she joined other students at the Ikija High School, Abeokuta, where she had been admitted for her junior secondary education.
The first of her parents’ three children, Atiyatullahi isn’t just an academic whiz kid; she’s also a devoted Muslim. By the time she turned five, she had actually completed the reading of the Holy Quoran. Right now, she’s studying Arabic literature books.
When Daily Sun ran into the brilliant girl, she was so confident of what she wants to be in life. “With God on my side and with prayers, which I believe in, I hope to make a career in law. I want to be a lawyer so that I can be of great help to my immediate community in particular as well as serve mankind in general,” she said.
The girl’s dad, Mr. Lawal, said Atiyatullahi began manifesting uncommon brilliance when she took interest in reciting many books offhand. At the time, he recalled, she was just four.
“We discovered her at four because she used to recite so many things offhand, including many of the things she learnt in school. Initially, we were worried about her academic development, but later we discovered that she could read and understand English very well.
“Ordinarily, it is difficult to believe that at her age, she is already in JSS I, but that is the reality. During her primary education, particularly when she was between classes 2 and 4, she had double promotion. At that time she was at the Baptist Day School. That was between 2008 and 2009. That was where she also completed her education.”
Atiyatullahi’s parents are both teachers, and she started her education at a very young age. According to her dad, she started kindergarten when she was just two. She attended Ayodele Akode Memorial Nursery/Primary School as well as Almubarak Nursery and Primary School.
And when she was asked what her favourite subjects were, the girl retorted innocently: “My favourite subjects? I like English Language and Mathematics, but I prefer English Language.”
The girl never attended an Islamic school, but on March 15, 2008, she celebrated her Wolimat Al Quoran (completion of reading of the Holy Quoran). Her father actually took her through the study of the Islamic holy book himself. He had mastered the holy book at 25.
“I introduced her to the reading of the holy book precisely on January 6, 2007, and miraculously, she completed the introductory reading within two days. We are surprised that about a week to her fifth birthday, on November 25, 2007, she completed the recitation. She then started another aspect, which is Jurisprudence.
Lawal’s extraordinary intellectual abilities and mastery of the Quoran as well as her admission into the JSS I at such a tender age is already causing ripples, with many wondering whether such is actually possible.
An educationist, Mr. Olayiwola Oyenekan, while reacting to Atiyatullahi’s feat, noted: “It is a rare achievement, but the great challenge is for her to sustain it. A genius like that has the tendency to rubbish her records if she is not well guided, especially by her parents.
“An adage in Yoruba says it is not the beginning that matters, but the ability to sustain the rare feat. Her parents must ensure that she does not derail along the way. I recommend that they monitor her studies and ensure that she gets to the Promise Land, I mean the university, between the ages of 13 and 14.’’
An Islamic cleric, Alhaji Mohammed Tajudeen who commented on the ingenuity of the girl advised that her parents should guide her in the ways of God.
“She should be guided and shown the way of God,” he said. “She must be taught the principles of God and they should allow her move closer to God. She needs fervent prayers to actualize her dreams in life,” he said.

WORLD PREMIERE: Faze ft 2face & Blackface – Best of the Best
Posted on November 2nd, 2010 by Ovie OIt’s hard to describe the effect the Plantashun Boiz had on Nigerians in the 1990’s. Till date, most people see the Plantashun Boiz as the foundation of modern-day Nigerian music; serving as the bridge between the older and newer generations. Inevitably, they parted ways, and as they say, the rest is history.
As previously announced when we premiered Faze’s comeback singles “Relate” and “Gear One”, the Legendary R ‘n’ B group, Plantashun Boiz (Faze, 2face and Blackface), have re-united to deliver a new track titled “Best of the Best” which is now available for your listening pleasure. You can tell I’m excited, and I really hope you are as well.
Faze’s album “Relate” drops before the end of 2010.

mi is back
As you may know, there has been report from several sources claiming that M.I has now decided to go the Nollywood route instead of enjoying the success he has built for himself in the music industry, but we are not sure how true this is. The truth is that MI2 may or may not see the light of day if M.I decides to compete in the same industry as a Jide Kosoko or Ramsey Noah.
“Undisputed” is self explanotary and makes a solid first single; expect to put this track on repeat for a while. Now I want you to answer this question ‘Is M.I Truly Undisputed?’ My answer is Yes…What is yours?
the suspended members
| |||||||||
The 11 suspended members of the House of Representatives have lost about N616m, findings by THE PUNCH revealed. The figure represents the combined total of their quarterly allocation for the third and fourth quarters of the year (July to December). Based on the allowances and entitlements fixed for lawmakers by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, each of the 360 members of the House takes home around N28m per quarter (or N9.33m per month). There are three months in each of the four quarters on which the allocations of the lawmakers are calculated. This translates to N308m per quarter for the 11 and N616m for the two quarters. Although the 11 lawmakers have been on suspension for about four months (July to October) their colleagues have already collected the block sum for two quarters (July to December). However, amid consistent denials by the House, there are speculations that the unofficial allocation for each lawmaker per quarter is N42m. If this unofficial figure is to be used, the 11 suspended lawmakers would have lost N462m per quarter or N924m for the two quarters. The 11, who belonged to a group in the House, the Progressive-Minded Legislators, were suspended in July after lawmakers loyal to the Speaker, Mr. Dimeji Bankole, fought with some of them on the floor of the House. The group, led by Mr. Dino Melaye, was demanding an investigation into the alleged misapplication of N9bn out of the capital votes of the House by the leadership. The group had demanded the resignation of the speaker, but the situation degenerated to a free-for-all, following which the 11 were suspended indefinitely for ‘disorderly conduct.’ THE PUNCH learnt that efforts to lift the suspension had not materialised, owing to an alleged sharp division in the ranks of the House. Many of lawmakers backing the leadership were said to be against the return of the 11 on account of their being ‘troublemakers.’ “If for nothing, we have had some stability in the House in the last few months of their absence; their return will heat up the atmosphere again,” one lawmaker told our correspondent on Monday. But there were those who interpreted the ‘perceived stability in the House’ to mean that lawmakers were afraid to comment on the style of its leadership, as “they do not want to be next in line for suspension.” Seven of the 11 (Dino Melaye, Anas Adamu, Independence Ogunewe, Bitrus Kaze, Solomon Awhinawhin, Doris Uboh and Austin, Nwachukwu), had gone to court to challenge the suspension on the grounds that it was illegal. The matter was last adjourned to November 15 by an Abuja Federal High Court. Four others (Gbenga Onigbogi, Gbenga Oduwaiye, Ehogie West-Idahosa and Kayode Amusan) opted out of the legal option, but attempts to lift their suspension through political interventions had also not materialised due to the division in the House. THE PUNCH investigation showed that following pleas made on their behalf by interested parties, the leadership had given the withdrawal of the law suit and the offer of an apology as a condition to consider their recall to the House. Of the seven, only Nwachukwu has withdrawn from the suit but his suspension had not been lifted as of Tuesday. Some of the 11 told our correspondent in Abuja that they had not been contacted on any discussions for their return to the House, just as they denied begging the leadership for pardon. Adamu, for instance, said his group was still in court challenging the suspension. “We are still in court and there will be a ruling on November 15,” he added. When asked about his political future, Adamu replied, “When we get to the bridge, we will cross it; God will decide.” Oduwaiye claimed not to have been contacted by the leadership of the House to tender any apology and neither was he keen on pleading to be pardoned. He said, “Not me, and nobody has contacted me for an apology; the people of my constituency are very educated and they are aware of what is going on. “My plans for the next elections are on and the decision regarding whether I will return to the House will be taken by the leaders and elders of my constituency.” When contacted, the spokesman of the House, Mr. Eseme Eyiboh, claimed that the suspended lawmakers had been sending emissaries to the leadership to plead on their behalf. According to him, the leadership is considering their cases individually, not as a group. He explained that the first condition the leadership gave was for those in court to withdraw their suit and tender an apology. Eyiboh added that there were ‘compassionate’ lawmakers in the House, who were ready to re-admit any of the 11 that had fulfilled the condition for pardon. |

Atiku , Ibb , Selfishness Deterimental To North
IBB, Atiku, others’ selfishness detrimental to the North – Niger governor | ||||||||||||||||

The failure of the aspirants to harmonise their differences and allow one of them to emerge as the consensus candidate, he said, was detrimental to the desire of the zone to produce the nation‘s president in 2011. Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar; former National Security Adviser, Aliyu Gusau; incumbent governor of Kwara State, Bukola Saraki, and former military president, Ibrahim Babangida are among the PDP presidential aspirants from the North. Aliyu added that the self-centred attitude of the aspirants would eventually weaken the current agitation of the North in its quest to have one of its own controlling the reins of governance in the country from next year. He noted that the current deadlock over the emergence of a consensus candidate was an indication that the once valued unity in the region no longer existed. Aliyu, also the chairman of the Northern Governors‘ Forum who stated this at the launch of Northern Women Development: Focus on Women in Northern Nigeria, written by Hajiya Hajara Kabir, added that the lack of having a consensus candidate had become an issue of great concern to the zone. He said, ”Zoning or no zoning, we (north) should be able to collectively give the direction of political leadership of this country. ”Hence, it is an embarrassment to the legacies left by our founding fathers, who in spite of political differences, would not compromise the unity of the North, for selfish gains. ”We must (also) use this opportunity to place on record the need for our leaders to amend the existing disconnection with the common people. ”It is not an understatement that today; leaders are unaware of the needs of the common people. This, you will agree with me, has dealt a devastating blow on our valued unity.” He expressed regret that in spite of their contributions, women in the country and especially in the North continued to face enormous challenges. |

Sound Sultan is one of the most consistent and underrated artistes on the Naija scene. From jagbajantis to orobo this guy has spoken to many issues including bad leadership, mass emigration and now body image. Easily one of the most talented Naija pop artistes out there IMO.
Love how playful this sing is, the lyrics and the video made me smile. The quality of the cinematography isn’t particularly good but who cares when that little girl just steals the show over and over again with her dancing!
